Context
In tropical countries, pesticide use has risen sharply since the 2000s. This is in response to pressure on agricultural production and the fear of changing practices.
This dependence has serious impacts: health risks for humans, loss of biodiversity, resistance and pollution of ecosystems.
Objectives
The aim of this project is to assess pesticide use in 5 tropical commodity chains, identify technical and political alternatives, understand the obstacles to their adoption, and build an international community of stakeholders committed to reducing pesticide use in southern agriculture.
92 active substances used in 5 tropical crops, of which 40% are of concern
20 documented technical levers for agroecological alternatives
5 support initiatives for communities to structure collective action
