Yet they are deteriorating rapidly: erosion, pollution, urbanization, salinization, deforestation. This deterioration threatens fertility, food security and ecosystems.  <br><br>At Montpellier, researchers combine a number of disciplines to :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Study soil fertility, carbon and fauna,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>test practices such as agroforestry and composting,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>monitor the evolution of organic matter,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>design sustainable policies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our aim is to gain a better understanding of interactions and develop solutions to restore and protect soils, the key to agro-ecological
