Yet the threats to human health are manifold:   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Emergence of new infectious diseases<\/strong> linked to environmental degradation.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Explosion of chronic diseases<\/strong> caused by our lifestyles and aging population.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Inequalities in access to healthcare<\/strong>, making the most vulnerable even more vulnerable to health crises.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Antibiotic resistance<\/strong>, threatening our ability to treat infections effectively.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Montpellier, where the world&#8217;s oldest medical school is still in operation, researchers combine fundamental research with the development of new approaches to better understand, prevent and treat
